Our route can start in any of the 3 capitals of the Basque Country no matter where your hotel is. We will pick you up at your desired time and we will bring you to discover Vitoria-Gasteiz, and one of Alava’s wonders, the saltsprings of Salinas de Añana and the beautiful sorroundings. We will leave the visit to Rioja Alavesa for another day, as this wine region requieres a more peaceful visit.
The administrative capital of the Basque Country is a human-scale city, taking care about sustainability and about the environment, for which it was appointed European Green Capital 2012 a really well deserved award.
In Vitoria-Gasteiz a visit to its beautiful old town is worth, it is known as “almendra medieval” (medieval almond) and there you will be able to visit houses and palaces reflecting the splendour of yesteryear. Additionally to top it all off, the visit to the Gothic cathedral of Santa María which inspired the Welsh novelist Ken Follet in order to write his World Without End, the sequel of his most successfull work, The Pillars of the Earth.
When in Vitoria’s old town you will have the chance of enjoying one of the gastronomic pleasures of Basque Coutry: the “pintxos”. This small plates are real culinary art masterpieces and when you see a bar full of them, that really is a show for the eyes. During our tour you will be able to taste and enjoy some of these, and without a shadow of a doubt you will become a fan of these “tapas” for life.
